And Dassa has become a Photographer.  Below is her latest work:

We’re enjoying the last of the warmer weather, though it has been a bit hotter than I care for.  But hot weather brings on scenes like this:

The girls aren’t complaining at all!

Dassa the Artiste

That’s what I call her…My Little Artiste.  I just can’t believe the drawings my four year-old creates.

Someday she’ll be famous.  :o)

Salta!

Posted in Uncategorized on September 23, 2007 by Hitty Jean

That is what Dassa sang the whole way *up* and almost the whole way *down* the Blue Hills yesterday.  She had the best time!  But let me backtrack a bit…

Img_0940

Yesterday was my dreaded  much anticipated 40th!  And for dinner, I wanted to go for a hike and have a picnic dinner.  So, birthday cake in hand (thanks, Christine!!), away we went!

Img_0941

Fanny~Mae had a crisis with her leg (and a bit of trouble breathing again…) so we had to stop for a few minutes to cool/calm her down:

Img_0945

Ummm….Dassa???  We’re having a crisis here…  Dassa?  Yoo hoo!

Img_0946

*SALTA*  *SALTA*  *SALTA*

Okay, um…Fan~Dog…your crisis must end, or Dassa will "Salta" out of sight!!!

Sooo….all was well, and we made it to the top.  Beautiful views, and you can see a touch of Autumn color here and there.  Just what I ordered for my birthday!

The girls loved the observation tower.  I was sure that Dassa might start complaining of fatigue after all the climbing, but she ran up and down those stairs like nobody’s business.

Hey, up there!

Img_0948

We picnicked and chatted.  (And Dassa discovered that she loves using my camera…)  Then Tater lit the candles on my cake (while Pit~Pat chased Dassa around, trying to recover my camera…lol):

Of course, a 4 year-old can smell cake a mile away.  She surrendered the camera and was on my lap in no time:

The wind blew the candles out for me, so I had to pretend:

Then we "salta’ed" our way back down:

Saw this on the way down:

It was a quiet, memorable day.  Just perfect for my 40th!

Early Autumn Happenings…

Posted in Uncategorized on September 21, 2007 by Hitty Jean

It has been so busy here, as Fall and the onset of school always is.  We have been to two birthday parties in the last week, and will have two more celebrations…no…make that three more celebrations before the week is finished.  The girls and I have been mucking about…

Exploring Nature:

Observing the beauty of our Autumn flowers:

And going to school!!!

Then, there has been the endless collecting of acorns (by me, as well as the girls), plenty of embroidering by all but the littlest among us, a great deal of sewing, baking, soup-making, hours spent frog-watching, learning to ride a two-wheeler (GO, PIT~PAT!), walks in the woods, trips to playgrounds, excessive sneezing (we all have colds), snuggling under the down comforter once again as we enjoy the cool Autumn nights, star-and-moon-gazing, sunset ogling…and on…and on…Mother Nature is Good.  We just love Autumn.

Did I Really Say That?

Even more unbelievable at this moment, could I have really meant it when I said I was looking forward to forty?

I changed my mind.

Rain and Trees and Bees

Posted in Uncategorized on September 11, 2007 by Hitty Jean

I love days like this, when it rains steadily…ALL DAY.  Especially when it seems like ages since we have seen rain.  I’m sure that my flowers and frogs love days like this, too.

Another thing I love are trees.  Big, old trees.  Beech Trees are a favorite.  Here are a few amazing trees from our walk the other day:

And the late Summer flowers…sooo pretty:

Even the Goldenrod was pretty, though it makes many people (including me!) sneeze.  To me, it is just the ultimate symbol of Summer’s end:

Weekending…

Posted in Uncategorized on September 9, 2007 by Hitty Jean

Well, it is Sunday night and the weekend is drawing to a close.  All three girls are showered or bathed and in their pj’s.  Dan is cooking dinner, and we are slowly winding down.

Tater discovered a cookbook on Friday night.  Late on Friday night.  As in, we should have been finishing up bedtime stories by then, but no one was really motivated to start the bedtime routine.  Next thing I know, Tater is making strawberry butter.  Then, she needs something to spread it on…then she needs a drink to go with it.  I felt like I was living in the book, If You Give a Mouse a Cookie.  After exploding the ingredients for a smoothie all over the kitchen, and cleaning that mess up, we all ended up dining in Tater’s Restaurant.  Pit~Pat took the orders.  Tater busily prepared our "meals."  Hey, who doesn’t want a hamburger bun spread with strawberry butter, and an orange slice with melted-ish chocolate on top…at 10 o’clock in the evening?

All restaurants must have proper facilities and be handicapped accessible:

Saturday was a crabby day.  Actually, only the evening was crabby.  We had a nice day at Pawbee’s house.  It was when we arrived home that things became crabby.  Bedtime was ugly.  Let’s just forget about that.  We woke up happy today.  Amazing what a good night’s sleep will do.

So, this morning, I announce that we are going to brunch and then to the arboretum for a walk.  "That’s boring."  "I don’t want to do that."  "Can we have a play-date after?"  Grrr.  I am happy to report, though, that attitudes had changed after our adventure.

Dassa:  That was so much fun, I never want to go home.

Tater:  I liked it!

Pit~Pat:  Yeah, it was really fun.   Is it too late to have a play-date?

Brunch was yummy.  Even Dassa ate everything.  And, as I have mentioned before, Dassa is the world’s pickiest eater.  The place we go is always crowded, which requires a bit of waiting in line:

Img_0831

After waiting in line on a chilly morning, hot chocolate is required:

Img_0833

Then, off to the Arboretum.  An amazing place.  We spent a couple of lovely hours exploring.  It was a really good time.

The girls got plenty of exercise (as did Dan and I):
