Archive for March, 2010

Here in the Northeast, March's rainfall has beat all records this year.  The carpool to Pitter's school is a bit tricky these days.  Dassa's bus couldn't go down our street to drop the kids off yesterday, since the bottom of the hill was one big lake.  (Boy, was Dassa excited about that!)
Rainy days sure are perfect for knitting.  I have finished one Wintry Mitt and now I'm working on the second.  My knitting has been made even more cheerful with the addition of this adorable new stitch marker, an unexpected gift from a friend:
I love it!  Thanks, friend!  ♥

A Wintery Mix

Posted in Uncategorized on March 26, 2010 by Hitty Jean

How appropriate that the mitten pattern I am working on right now is named "Wintery Mix Mitts" while outdoors, we have just that.  Drizzle…a bit of snow…and back again to drizzle.
While I knit away (and do lots and lots of laundry), the storm that has taken hold of every member of the family is slowly subsiding.  Phew!
I'm looking forward to a fun and healthy weekend.

A Spell of Quiet…

Posted in Uncategorized on March 23, 2010 by Hitty Jean

Hello, there!
Easter is coming soon, soon…and I find my mind full of all the fun things that this time of year means to me and my family.
We had a lovely Spring Breakfast this past Saturday morning:
Sadly, by Saturday evening, I was knocked down.  By yesterday, I was on the mend, but the littles were hit hard.  Today they are on the mend, happily watching a movie and eating saltines together.  Dassa found it thrilling to be sent home sick from school.  I found the entire ordeal a bit overwhelming.  But, we're here feeling better and a spell of quiet is always a good thing in my book.
The weather has become rainy once again, creating a soft and cosy light indoors.
Perfect for a day like today.
And when we're all better, Spring will still be here to enjoy to its fullest…

A Visit With Hitty

Posted in Uncategorized on March 18, 2010 by Hitty Jean

The weather was so very delightful yesterday.  Hitty Jean decided to take a walk about the garden to see what's popping up.  She stopped to admire the crocuses:
She had a strange feeling someone (or something?!) was following her.  She turned to look, and could swear she saw a Leprechaun!  Really!
But when Hitty Jean turned to follow the little one, it was gone!
Hitty Jean was sure her eyes must have been deceiving her.  Still, she hastened to the kitchen, where she found Sticky Frog.  Hitty Jean told Sticky Frog all about her *Leprechaun Sighting* and Sticky Frog was quiet…for a moment.  Then she pointed at Hitty Jean's dress and exclaimed,"Hitty Jean!!  It's Saint Patrick's Day!!  Of course you saw a Leprechaun!  You aren't wearing a stitch of green and that Leprechaun is probably planning a trick on you!"
Hitty Jean ran straight to her room to look for something green to wear.  No Leprechaun was going to play a trick on her if she could help it!  But all the green dresses were gone.  Hitty Jean was awfully jumpy for the rest of the day:
And Furry still can't stop giggling about it:
I wonder if Furry was in cahoots with the Leprechaun?  Now that would be something!

Week’s End

.:so how do you spend the weekend when your world is socked-in by a really excellent Nor'Easter?  for starters, a trip to the bagel store drive-through in your pj's is always fun.  spotting wild turkeys along the way always adds an element of excitement.  a piggy-pile nap is a nice way to pass the time if you are a canine.  playing with your sister is lovely as well.  bored Bassets can be trouble – look out for them.  tandem computer sessions with your sisters are grand.  playing board games with your grandparents is always good for a laugh.  (knitting session in progress on the table behind…)  visit your GG and let her try on Pawbee's new shawl (which she finally finished.)  if you are six, turn the camera on yourself – mom always likes those pictures:.
